It is extremely important that our students become media literate - able to critically analyze the media they see around them all day, every day. The Paley Center is all about Media Literacy and presents it in a format with which kids are already familiar, using TV shows, commercials, news programs, etc.
Please comment on the following:
1. How would you apply this session to your own classroom?
2. If you really do not see how this session fits, are there ways to apply any of Paley Center's other VLEs to what your students are learning?
3. Why are pre- and post-conference activities so important?

1. I'm not sure yet how I will use it. The other questions will need to be addressed after the information is presented.
I'm not sure yet how I will use it.

This is a great session to learn, but I'm not sure how I will incorporate this into my curriculum.

Great Session! I really enjoyed it. I just love how seemless it all was.
I think this would be a great opportunity to have children see how advertisements influence their choices. Very interesting!

Wonderful content. I can see where many of these ideas, and video
This will be shared with our social studies department.

She showed me how to positively facilitate a video conference.
I am curious how these Media resources could help me in my classroom.

I appreciated this video conference and see many possibilities in our arts programs at the middle schools and at the high school in our PAVE program. Thank you!
I would be more likely to use the VLE's that are at the elementary level. Pre activities are important to introduce the topic, and post activities to wrap it up.

I can see how the Presidential ads course would be a perfect fit for US history classes.
Neat presentation. I would be interested in looking at their other programs. This particular one would not be as readily used in my room, but it is a great idea for older students.

This particular session is not applicable to my grade level. I need to view Paley's other VLEs to see if I could locate other sessions to use or to suggest to my colleagues.

I enjoyed this presentation and hope to get this information to teachers that will be able to use this with their students. Students need to learn how to "read" all types of media.
This is actually a great opener to discuss media literacy and help students to understand that they must look at all sources of media so that they can be educated consumers
Very exciting exchange of ideas about a particular era in American History. This would be a great way to teach kids about things such as the "Red Scare."

Great content provider. I can see where I can incorporate this into my classroom. The political advertising video conference would be great for many o my higher level students. I think that having the media aspect of it will help to hook students into the video conference's pre and post activities.
Paley Center offers some great topics encouraging us all to be thoughtful citizens. Fits beautifully with the mission of the Robert H. Jackson center.
Pre and post conference activities fit with what we know about learning...real, longterm learning.
This was a good example of modeling the technique of videoconferencing with multiple sights. The kids today spend so much time involved with the media, this is a very valid way to educate them.

A lot of good points were made, exercised, and modeled.

1. This would be very applicable to all students and would be a good activity for me to get into their classrooms to do. It could be adapted for other products i.e. junk food, toys and other items kids just can't seem to live without.
Pre and post conference activities are important because they ensure learning and relection takes place.

This would be great for social studies classes since they are very into primary sources and how they are used. It would also be good for a business class or marketing class.
Pre and post conference activities connects the student to the reason for the activity and how it relates to the curriculum currently being taught.
I would definitely see value to use this provider for a one time contact. It's so important that our students be able to see through all the slick advertising techniques that they are barraged with so very often. Media is probably the most influential force on most of our youth today.

I would use this in a writing assignment for social studies.
I can see many ways to use this site.
In order to put what you have learned iin to practice.
Maybe for a lesson on propaganda- how different types of advertising is used, the different language and how it effects the viewers.
I'm not sure how I would use it, but schools should incorporate media literacy into the curriculum, along with a course in rhetoric/fallacies!
What a great activity. This could be modified for different grade levels including primary. We do a persuasive writing unit and poster activity that this could be adapted to. This would require lots of pre-conference activities to prepare students for conference and have materials, etc. ready.
