I am interested in doing a collaborative learning experience with another area class. I am doing a literature circles experience with them using the novels, Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World, Ender's Game, Frankenstein, and The Time Machine. We would concentrate on the Science Fiction Genre. I would like students to be able to discuss and create with students outside of thier district. I was wondering if there was another teacher out there interested in getting together to work on this?

Are you doing lit circles during class or after school? I'm the Spencer-Van Etten librarian and I know students in the HS read these books. I can talk to the English teacher.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first day. I am very interested in the teleconferencing realm of teaching. As an elementary Science teacher, I am looking to find some conferences that would be relevant to science concepts. Any ideas?
Ok, our 12th grade English teacher definitely has more freedom with time than the 9th grade. I carpool with him and will ask him about collaborating!

I found the activities that we did yesterday to be very helpful. The mystery quest can be modified to fit most any subject or age level. I teach art in Prattsburgh, and I would be interested in exploring some type of art mystery quest with other districts. I would also be interested in sharing artwork between schools using video conferencing in any way. Please feel free to pass my e-mail address on to the art teachers in your schools. I would love to work on some collaborative projects.

I enjoyed the MysteryQuest Beach activity and can see where this type of activity would be a fun learning experience for classrooms in our district.
Hi There-
I am trying to set up collaborations for...
Foreign Language
I have a French teacher that teaches French 4 from 7:40 - 8:20 and a Spanish teacher that teaches Span 4 (7:40 - 8:20) and Span 5 (8:30 - 9:10). I would love to set up a semi-regular conversation with another class.
International Business
I have a business teacher that teaches IB from 12:05 - 12:45. They do lots of presentations that could work well in a collaboration.
Economics
I have an economics teacher that would be interested in setting up a collaboration regarding our current bailouts and issues associated with it. They also do lots of presentations about setting up potential businesses. He teaches from 11:00 - 11:30 and 12:50 - 1:20.
any takers????

Let me get in contact with our Economics teacher when I get back to school tomorrow. They are always researching current events.

regarding connections to Japan, Brazil, Egypt, Mexico, Canada, etc - in addition to postings on CILC.org and CAPspace (http://projects.twice.cc/) you can work with your DL coordinator for postings on worldwide listservs for MegaconferenceJR, and Megaconference and K20advise. I've seen postings on those listservs from people in almost all of those foreign countries.

It's been a great two days getting to share ideas with everyone across the state. I have a Career Financial Mngt class that meets from 8:15-9:00. About in Januuary, we will be in an interview unit. Would anyone be interested in having our students interview each other?

I am interested in doing a video conference with another 9th grade regents Earth Science class. I would like students to share 2-3 mini lessons, on major topic areas, covered in the standards. As an added feature, students and teachers could share demos and/or samples.
Thanks
Rich Hurley
I don't have the Polycom equipment yet, but want to make connections with other K-5 teachers and technology specialists to think of ideas I can bring back to my school. Some ideas I have are literature circles, any geography ideas (state/local/national/international), and some neat science ideas. It would be interesting to hear about any math ideas, because that subject seems harder to do through distance learning. I would be looking for something interactive so the students are consistently engaged throughout the program. Hopefully we can get a loaner so we can prove the need and how we can use it in our school.
It was great to be exposed to some of the opportunities for video conferencing such as MysteryQuest and the Global Nomads group. Participating in the activities during ESVC helped me understand how much this can enhance classroom learning. We will share this information with teachers in the Spencer-Van Etten CSD and encourage them to participate in some of these activities.
We've already connected with Bradford and Prattsburg and plan a 3 way conference with our elementary students. We look forward to many more opportunities.

Crystal Whitney, I would be more than willing to collaborate with you on ideas for using video conferencing across the curriculum! We could schedule a time to meet by video conference to discuss our ideas.
